Celebrating

Today we didn't go far from home as I went with Em to pick up her results. We all went to Angel Chef for lunch and then to see Space Chimps at the cinema. Three of us fell asleep - me and George because we were tired after a very long day yesterday and Emily who's been too worried to sleep properly this week. Film was very cute.

Blackpool

I used to love Blackpool for its unashamed tackiness but yesterday it just seemed sad and neglected. I think I hadn't realised how long it was since we were last there and visited Funny Girls The girls however enjoyed the beach, Pleasure Beach and arcades.

She did it!!!!!

Em got into Birmingham. We're so pleased for you X

A Level Results

This is a big day for Ems. She will find out if she has achieved the results she needs to get into Birmingham to study Ancient History. She's been getting more and more stressed as the week went on. Em - you couldn't have worked any harder and it will all be ok!

Wii Fit

Today I am 43. Better than yesterday's 45 but still some way off the 33 I was so pleased with. Anyone thinking of getting a Wii Fit be warned they are very addictive. I exercised for over an hour this morning - unheard of !!!!!

Mum can we have.......

..... a ferret? Yes that's right - a FERRET. I don't think so. But apparently they are "sooooo cute".

We spent today at the Dean Heritage Centre. The weather was much better than expected and the sun came out for part of the day. The Centre has something for everyone. The girls particularly enjoyed the pigs, rabbits and ferrets and the adventure playground.

George was interested in the vegetable garden of the miner's cottage and I liked the social history area of the museum and the miner's cottage. All in all a great value day out. Am a bit worried about the planned trip to the zoo. Mum can we have....... a tiger, elephant, giraffe???

Following Gill's Lead

I am Elizabeth Bennet!

Take the Quiz here!

Visit Gill's blog - Elegant Suffiency - to see which heroine she was.

...intelligent, witty, and tremendously attractive. You have a good head on your shoulders, and oftentimes find yourself the lone beacon of reason in a sea of ridiculousness. You take great pleasure in many things. You are proficient in nearly all of them, though you will never own it. Lest you seem too perfect, you have a tendency toward prejudgement that serves you very ill indeed.

Who am I to disagree?

Caught in the Act

Asked Boo earlier if she had made a Marmite sandwich. She looked a bit shocked and said "How did you know?" Can you guess!

Wii Fit Update

This is a bit Bridget Jones. Will I have to post an update every day on my Wii Fit age. Not good news today - I am 45. But worse than that George is only 39!!!! Will have to try harder tomorrow.

Slimbridge

Made use of the our Membership to spend a day with the geese and swans at Slimbridge. There were a couple of new attractions. Firstly, the display of frogs, toads and newts in Toad Hall. This is Mr Custard:

There are opportunities for the children to see the amphibians close up and to handle them. Chaz was very brave holding this Fire Salamander (photo by Boo).

Welly Boot Land which opened in July promises "Water, logs and ropes combine to make a thrilling experience". Armed with our wellies we were disappointed to find that the vital ingredient - water -was nowhere to be seen. However the girls enjoyed climbing and playing in the sand. It looked as though the water will be great fun when it's fixed - but probably taking a change of clothes would be a wise move. We have some video to upload here but don't have the right connector for the video camera - watch this space.

Sitting Room

As posted previously our house really hasn't made much progress in the past 8 years. However, last year we did get round to decorating and furnishing the dining room (see yesterday's post) and the sitting room. Obviously neither room is completely finished yet in accordance with our family tradition. However, here are a few pics. I can't believe we waited 4 years to afford these sofas and my sister asked if they came from Argos!!!! (I'll never forgive her)

Hmmmm, this photo makes it look as though the house has suffered from serious subsidence.

The Venture photograph below is included as when I was feeling a bit put out this morning that we weren't going on holiday I realised it cost as much as a short break - so consider it this year's holiday shot!

Wii Fit

What's a girl to think when her husband presents her with a Wii Fit as a gift. Okay I admit I have put on a few extra pounds recently but...... I duly set myself up, weighed in public (well in front of girls which means the information will be public very shortly), discovered I am overweight (surprise, surprise). The worst discovery, however, was that my Wii Fit Age was 81. So I call in the Wii equivalent of Nicky Hamilton-Jones (10 Years Younger) a virtual Personal Trainer. By Day 2 my Wii Fit Age has dropped to 51 - all without the humilation of standing in a street and asking 100 people how old they think I am. My family were amused today to see that I'm now 33 - just one year older than I am on a Saturday night out.

Am now addicted to the Step exercises and have even discovered some coordination. See video below. No don't worry I haven't been working so hard that I'm now 8 - this is Boo!!

Having watched the video you will appreciate why I got a stand in. Who'd have a camera lens wide enough for a overweight 46 year old (or should that be 33 year old??).

Charlotte Cooks Sunday Lunch

Charlotte cooked Sunday lunch today - enjoying a mother and daughter bonding session - or so she thought. The truth however is that I have realised there are just 6 weeks until Em leaves for Birmingham. Who is going to cook on Sundays then? ........ why Chaz of course! She got off to a great start. Okay, we had a small problem with the roast beef, quickly corrected, when we were wondering why fat was splattering all round the oven. That would be because I guessed the cooking temperature to be Gas Mark 6 when it should have been 4.
The honey roast parsnips were cooked perfectly and the cabbage was interesting as I sprinkled it with dried oregano instead of pepper. There were two desserts on offer - strawberries and an excellent bread and butter pudding. We now know the reason for cutting the crusts off the bread is because they will burn - but we only left them on one slice so it was still delicious.

Well done Chaz, an excellent first attempt. However, I think you could do with some more practice next week!

Free to a Good Home

...... or in fact any home. One 2-year old Patterdale Terrier who cannot be trusted on his own anywhere with food.
